Valentine’s Day…….........ok, that’s enough about that, moving on!
I just got back in from my day out in Melbourne with Brian and his new roommate, Chip-what a day! We got off the ship around 2pm after Brian and I had to work from about 12:30 to 1:30. After wandering around for a while, we found a bank to exchange some currency and then found our way to the nearest tram station to get into the city itself. Once we got in, we stopped at a Krispy Kreme donut shop because, well, we just couldn’t resist! Delicious! Once we were done there, we kept walking and eventually found the Target I had found the last time we were here which was way back in early November. After purchasing a few supplies, we continue to walk around for a little while searching for fast, free WiFi but you would not believe how difficult that is to find around here! When we find found some WiFi—though it was slow and a bit patchy—we were able to plan out where we wanted to go to dinner, kind of how we’d get there on the tram system, and then where the nearest movie cinema was because we had decided that we wanted to catch the new Sherlock Holmes.
So, our plan to get to dinner worked out nicely, we ended up on a street called Lygon street which is packed full of restaurants and shops—mostly Italian places—and we decided on a Woodfire pizza place. Instead of going with my usual choices, I spotted a pizza on the menu that piqued my interests: tomato sauce, cheese, zucchini, pumpkin, potato and feta. Sounds different, right? I don’t know why but I read that and was so intrigued that I went with it…it wasn’t awful…I’m not sure I’d order it again, but, it was worth the one time shot. After that we went across the street to a candy shop (not a good idea on Valentine’s Day, by the way) where I found some candies that are called Chili Bites which are dark chocolate with chili bits. I haven’t tried one yet, but, you better believe that I will report back as soon as I do!
After dinner, we got back on the tram and after some extensive reading of maps, I finally asked a railway worker how to get to the cinema that we had our eye on. He instructed us on the route we needed to take and it was happily on the route to get to the ship! Convenient! Thusly, we boarded the tram and got off a number of stops later at the casino/cinema/mall complex. We got into the cinema, got up to buy our tickets and found out the bad news: Sherlock Holmes was #1. For “Gold Pass” cinema ticket holders only and #2. Already sold out anyways. BUMMER! So we browsed the available movies and picked “This Means War” with Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Handler and some attractive men from some other films I’ve seen. It. Was. AMAZING. It was a really nice cross between an action flick and a girl movie without being too harshly written one way or the other—there were so many funny one-liners that had all three of us in stitches and so you know that it’s a crowd pleaser. There was a really funny moment where Reese Witherspoon walks in to the scene and she’s wearing these AWESOME red shoes and myself and the girl next to me both said, at the exact same time, “OMG I LOVE HER SHOES”. It was priceless.
Oh! Before I move on from the movie thing, when we bought our tickets tonight, they assigned us seats in the theatre! How interesting is that! And then, the movie time said 9:40, but what that really meant was that they open the doors at 9:40 but the movie didn’t start until 10:00, AND, wait for it…….THERE WERE NO PREVIEWS! What is that about?! I know some of you out there are probably going “Oh! That’s fabulous! They should start that here!” But NO! I like the previews! I want to know what to look forward to seeing a year from now! The lights in the theatre went dark…and the movie starting playing…and I just didn’t know what to do with myself! I had barely made a dent in the too-salty popcorn! Absolute rubbish, I tell you.
Anyways, the movie ended, we got back on the tram, subsequently back to the ship, and now here we are. Well, I should say here I am. After tonight we leave Melbourne around noon tomorrow and then we head out to Hobart. Last night was the crew Valentine’s Day party and we finished working around 1:30am and I really didn’t feel like going because…well…it’s Valentine’s day…so I came back to my cabin, put on my pajamas and turned on a movie. About 10 minutes later I got a call from Brian who was DEMANDING that I go to the party with him and that if I didn’t he was going to stand outside my door and bang on it until I relented. So, in the interest of my poor neighbors (most of whom ended up being out anyway) I threw on some clothes and went out. We had an ok time I suppose, but I was still excited to get back to my bed.
Speaking of getting back to my bed, that’s what I’m gonna do!
Love you all, I’ll write again soon
B
